Hey everyone, I realize now that two emails were sent out regarding TURC this week (due to some administrative miscommunication). Please disregard the first email. We will be following the schedule that I sent out. Thanks. Ryan

Ladies and Gentlemen of TURC: This past Saturday two of TURC's finest, Colin Zauner and Keith Behrman, competed in the 800 meter run at Bethel. Placing 7th and 8th in 2:00.63 and 2:00.67, both ran exceptionally well and even finished ahead of a few Minnesota athletes. Great work guys! This week TURC will be meeting at Mon. 6:00PM Tues. 5:30PM Wed. 5:30PM Thurs. 6:00PM Fri. 4:30PM As always meet in Cooke Hall. Ladies and Gentlemen of TURC, First of all, I hope everyone is off to a great start this semester. In addition, I hope everyone is excited for the month of February. I am almost positive there will be six more weeks of winter, regardless of whether or not Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow--we do live in Minnesota. Still, the days should start to seem longer, temperatures ought to increase, the Superbowl and Winter Olympics are approaching, and of course there is Valentine's Day to celebrate. Most importantly you will be able to run with TURC every week-day! This week's schedule is as follows: Monday- 6:00 PM <-Workout Tuesday- 5:30 PM Wednesday- 5:30 PM Thursday- 6:00 PM <-Workout Friday- 4:30 PM As always meet in Cooke Hall located directly across from the Rec Center. Also this past weekend, fellow teammates Keith Behrman, Slavo Tkac, and Ryan Daye competed in the Warren Bowlus Open at UW-Stout. All ran exceptionally well finishing the mile race with times of 4:26, 4:41, and 4:54. Congratulations guys! Way to represent the club! Well, that is about all for now. See you at TURC! Nicholas Van Ess Vice President NOTE: For those who wish to unsubscribe to the e-mail list please go to our website http://tc.clubrunning.org, select Joining/Contact Us, select mailing list, enter your email and then select unsubscribe. Hey TURC nation, Sorry I'm sending this out now, I was having trouble with my email last night. On a brighter note, at least the vikings lost! Here is the run schedule this week; notice the fact that there are two workouts: Monday: Meet in Cooke Hall at 6pm to go over to indoor track for workout. Tuesday: 5:30pm Wednesday: 5:30pm Thursday: Meet at Cooke Hall at 6pm to go over to indoor track Friday: 4:30pm *All runs meet at Cooke Hall. Alright everyone I need to get to class but I hope to see everyone this week. Ryan
Hey everyone, Two quick reminders. First, for anyone planning on coming to the workout tonight, we will be meeting in Cooke Hall first and then going over to the indoor track together. If you do come, you are welcome to do any workout you would like, we do not require you to do any particular workout. Second, on Friday Hal will be at TURC in order to pay back the individuals we owe money (he guarantees his attendance). Your President, Ryan
Hey TURC Nation, I hope everyone had a great break, did well (enough) on finals, and is excited to start school again. A few quick updates. First, TURC will officially begin to meet for spring semester on Tuesday, January 19th at 5:30pm in front of the wooden gopher and will meet at that time and location on wednesday as well. On friday January 22nd we will meet at 4:30pm. Second, on thursday, January 21st we will be having our first team workout of the new semester at 5:30pm in the fieldhouse in preparation for track and road racing season! I encourage everyone to attend. Finally, on Wednesday, January 20th Hal Brown, our Chief Financial Officer, will be at TURC with the team checkbook to pay people any money that our club owes them. If you cannot attend that day, please email us and let us know how to get your money to you. Well, thats all I have for now. I hope to see everyone on Tuesday! President of the club with the "running M" on our panel on the Washington Ave Bridge, Ryan Daye
Hey TURC Nation, I just wanted to let you all know about an easy way to raise money for the club. If you are selling your textbooks, sell them to Oak St. Textbooks. If you mention that you are with The University Running Club, the the store will donate 10% of groups sales from textbooks to the Club. If you are going to participate make sure to e-mail your name run@umn.edu as the store needs a list of people that are in the club ahead of time. Just in case you're wondering, no, I am not a sales rep for Oak St. Textbooks, haha. Steele and I did this last year and we were able to raise a pretty good amount of money from the club for doing this. Here are the steps one more time: 1. Let TURC know that you are selling your books to Oak St. Textbooks 2. Sell your textbooks to Oak St. Textbooks 3. TURC from Oak St. Textbooks! It so easy, a Hawkeye could do it! (Zing!) Sincerely, Chris DiSalvi Ex-vice president of The University Running Club
Hey everyone, As Nick mentioned earlier, the TURC end-of-semester potluck will take place this Friday from 6:00 p.m to 8:30p.m in room 324 of Coffman Union. At this dinner we will also be giving out awards (some may be a little unorthodox) as well as going over what to expect for spring and the upcoming track season. As for what people should bring I have come up with a plan to make sure that we dont have 20 people bring cookies (though that wouldnt be so bad). If you can (and I would ask everyone that is coming to try and bring something) bring food, please bring something from one of the following groups: beverage, dessert, or side dish or from cups or plates. Please respond via email ASAP what you plan to bring, this way I can direct things a little better. Also, Nick and I will be providing the main entree as well as napkins and utensils. I am looking forward to seeing EVERYONE Friday (you can take a little time away from your night for the best club with the coolest members on campus). If anyone has any questions just send me an email or give me a call (262-909-8424). Your President, Ryan
TURC Members, Yes the frigged temperatures have finally caught up with us; after all, this is Minnesota. However, TURC is a year-round organization, and will continue to meet: Monday- 5:30PM Tuesday- 5:30PM Wednesday- 5:30PM Thursday- 5:30PM Friday- 4:30PM We have noticed a decline in the number of runners these last couple weeks. Don't let this climate-shift undermine your activity. It definitely beats fumbling with treadmills or inHALing the dry indoor-track air. Also, this Friday (December 11) is the TURC potluck/banquet. As of now, this will be held inside of Coffman Union. More details regarding time and exact location will follow. Please, respond to this email if you will be attending. In addition, if anyone would like TURC t-shirts from last year, let us know. We have extras, and I believe the cost was around $15. That's all for this week. Watch for more information on the TURC potluck/banquet. See you at the gopher! Nicholas Van Ess Vice President
TURC Members, First off, I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! More importantly, I hope everyone is ready for another week of TURC! The times will remain the same for now: Monday- 5:30PM Tuesday- 5:30PM Wednesday- 5:30PM Thursday- 5:30PM Friday- 4:30PM Also, if you still have to turn in money for races, jerseys, etc. please do so as soon as possible. That's about all for now. Nicholas Van Ess Vice President
Hey TURC, Now that the racing season is over we have entered that dreaded 8 month long period in Minnesota known as winter. However, TURC will still, as always, meet 5 days a week no matter how cold it is (no wussies in this club). The only exception will come around finals time. When finals get close, we will let you know when the last TURC run of the semester will be. Until that time everything will continue as normal. On another note, for those of you interested in racing in spring (track, 5ks, etc.) these next two months are the time to base train consistently, this means going outside and running or, as much as it pains me to say this, using the treadmill everyday. Once TURC comes back from winter break we will begin doing some workouts on the indoor track, so make sure to run over break. On a final note, even though nationals are over I want to encourage everyone to still come as often as possible. For obvious reasons our attendance always drops during the winter and it would be nice if we could maintain the same size groups we have been running with. That being said the run schedule for this week is as follows: Monday: 5:30pm, All runs will meet in Cooke Hall ( the building across from the front doors of the Rec Center) Tuesday: 5:30pm Wednesday: 5:30pm Thursday: 5:30pm Friday: 4:30pm President of the toughest club on campus, Ryan P.S Both Nick and I will be making our triumphant returns to TURC this week to keep order after what I'm sure had to be a week of anarchy
To everyone who was planning on going to Living History, I have made the decision to cancel the trip to the Living History Farms Race. As of today I only was told by three people that they had signed up for the race and this is simply not enough to justify the trip down there. I take part of the blame for this trip failing as I did not give enough warning about signing up before registration closed early, however, I think interest for this race simply died down due to its proximity to nationals and the affect of the long racing season we had this year. The decision to cancel this trip was very hard as it really bothers me that TURC will not be going to the race this year. I myself would love to go but just have so much to get done this weekend. Everyone that signed up please let me know and you will recieve a full refund. Ryan
Hey everyone, In the last email I some-how forgot to include Tyler Mandry in the men's NIRCA roster. My apologies 'Druski.' Again, here are the complete NIRCA Nationals 2009 rosters for Minnesota. MEN Keith Behrman Hal Brown Ryan Daye Chris Disalvi Joshua Doebbert Chris Flegel Zach Krause Michael Kasinkas Steele Lorenz Tyler Mandry Nicholas Van Ess WOMEN Erin Bennett Brittany Pentek Candice Todryk Molly Watkins Megan Willerton Libby Zupanc Nicholas Van Ess VP
TURC Members, Congratulations everyone who competed in the NIRCA National Championship Race this weekend. Our women's team placed 8th, quite an accomplishment seeing as this was the first year we had a full women's team. Runners included Molly Watkins, Libby Zupanc, Candice Todryk, Erin Bennett, Megan Willerton, and Brittany Pentek. Our men's team also finished well, placing 10 out of 31 teams! Runners included Steele Lorenz, Hal Brown, Keith Behrman Zach Krause, Ryan Daye, Nicholas Van Ess, Chris Disalvi, Joshua Doebbert, Chris Flegel, and Michael Kasinkas. Also, I would like to give to give a special shout-out to Steele Lorenz who finished 14th with a time of 26:38.4. Again, congratulations to everyone this weekend. It was great to see everyone finish the season strong! Though racing has ended, TURC will continue. Times for this week will be as usual. However, Ryan, and myself will most likely not be running this week. Monday- 5:30PM Tuesday- 5:30PM Wednesday- 5:30PM Thursday- 5:30PM Friday- 4:30PM Also, if you have not yet paid for Nationals please e-mail us. In addition, if you did originally sign-up and cancelled at the last minute, you were still charged $20 for registration. If you still haven't picked-up your uniform, please e-mail us, so we can get that to you. Moreover, if you plan on going to Living History, e-mail us as well. We would like to know how many people plan on going. So far, there have only been a few interested. Finally, TURC is also planning on having a pot-luck after Thanksgiving. This is just a heads-up. More details will be coming soon. Thanks again everyone for a great weekend especially Ryan, the Daye family, our drivers, our seniors, and everyone else for racing hard. This was a great time, and I'm already looking forward to next year. Nicholas Van Ess Vice President
For everyone going to Nationals, Tomorrow, everyone will be leaving from the gopher at 4:30 PM. There will not be a car leaving earlier as previously mentioned. Please be ready to leave by 4:30 PM; we will not be waiting around. Again, we will be heading to Milwaukee on Thursday and continuing to Ann Arbor on Friday. Also, there will be at least one car, possibly more, heading back Saturday evening. See you tomorrow! Nicholas Van Ess Vice President
Hey everyone, In this email I will attempt to cover everything people need to know about Nationals. First off, there will be one car leaving at 2:00pm (we still have spots open in this car, IF YOU CAN LEAVE AT 2 LET ME KNOW) on Thursday from the wooden gopher and all the remaining cars will be leaving at 4:30pm from the wooden gopher. If you can not make it to either one of these times, again, please let me know. However, in the event that you can not leave any earlier than 5pm, or if you are more than 15 minutes late to meeting at the wooden gopher, you will not be making the trip with us. On Thursday night we will all be staying at my house in Racine, WI. On Friday morning we will be waking up fairly early, going out for a short team run, and then eating breakfast. We will leave my house probably somewhere around 10am to make the rest of the trip to Ann Arbor, MI. We will be staying in a hotel on Friday and Saturday night and will be leaving to return home no later than 10am on Sunday morning. We will be driving straight through Sunday. On Saturday, we plan to be arriving to the course at around 8:00am to give both our teams plenty of time for course inspection and warm ups. Women race at 10:30am and men race at 12:00pm. After the men's race there is a lunch/tailgate that we will stay at for a short amount of time. At 4:30pm the ENTIRE team will be going to the NIRCA awards ceremony until 7. We are supposed to dress business casual, so please bring something nice to wear. After the reception, we will be going out as a team to dinner (there will be minimal food at the awards ceremony). After dinner, we will discuss what options people have for the rest of the night, but everyone will pretty much be on their own. Now for the fun part, money. The total cost for this trip is $85. $20 of that is for race registration, so please keep that money separate (do not write out one big check. If you pay by check make the race fee check out to "NIRCA" and the other out to "The University Running Club"). I FULLY EXPECT EVERYONE TO BRING ALL OF THE MONEY FOR THE TRIP WITH THEM ON THURSDAY. As a club, we have been more than patient with regards to money, and the current trend of late payment can not continue otherwise we will have to enforce consequences for late payment in the future. As a final note, if you signed up for the race and can not come you still have to pay the $20 race fee. This is unfortunate, but it is a NIRCA policy and therefore mandatory. Alright everyone, if I missed something in here or if you have any questions let me know. I am looking forward to an awesome weekend for our team. Your President, Ryan P.S keep an eye out for emails now until thursday afternoon with any more important details.
Hey Turc Nation, A few things about nationals. If everyone that is going to nationals could please respond to this individually, what is the best time for you to leave? In other words what is the earliest time you could leave? I was planning on having a few cars leave the U at about 1:00pm on thursday afternoon and a few cars leave at 4:30pm on thursday afternoon. If this does not work for someone please let me know. Also a reminder: the cost for this trip is $85 I am asking everyone to please bring this full amount along to the trip. Race fee (this is included in the $85) is $20 and will be payed individually on race day. If you make out a check, make it out to "NIRCA". That is all for now, more updates to follow soon. Ryan The Prez
Members of TURC, Nationals is this Saturday! We will be leaving this Thursday evening most likely around 6:00PM, though this may change. From there, we will be spending the night near Milwaukee at Ryan's house. The rest of the schedule is as follows: Friday- proceed to Ann Arbor, MI; check-in at hotel; pick-up race packets Saturday- RACE DAY! (10:30AM Women's 6K/ 12:00PM Men's 8K) Sunday- return to Minnesota Eating arrangements and other matters will be determined along the trip. For those of you who have not yet seen the course visit http://www.clubrunning.org/nationals_course.php As for the this week, the schedule is as follows: Monday: 5:30PM Tuesday: 7:00PM Wednesday: 5:30 PM If you are attending Nationals, please make it to the runs this week. We will be covering more topics regarding our trip to Nationals. As always, great work so far everyone. This should definitely be a fun trip. I hope everyone is as excited as I am and is ready to show what the Minnesota Distance Project is all about. Like I've said before, we have the talent, we have the preparation, and we have the determination--so let's make it happen! See you at the gopher! Nicholas Van Ess Vice President
Hey everyone, Just a reminder to everyone who wants to go to Living History, if you have not signed up already, do so IMMEDIATELY because race capacity will be reached very soon. Also, for this race we where able to get a grant from the U so cost will be fairly low (hotel price, gas, etc. will be of minimal cost). When you sign up also remember to sign up as part of the team "Minnesota Distance Project" which is a co ed team. We will be leaving for Iowa on Friday (Nov 20th) afternoon probably around 3 or 4. Ryan
TURC Members, This is just a reminder that today is Jersey/Shorts Pick-Up Day! I will be in Cooke Hall (the building across from the Rec Center) at 5:00 PM distributing them. Hopefully this will give everyone enough time to pick-up their order, store it, and be ready by 5:30 for running club. Again make sure to bring $25/singlet and/or $22/shorts. See you then! Nicholas Van Ess Vice President
TURC Members, First off, I hope everyone had a great Halloween weekend--I know I did! Also, I want to thank everyone who took part in our costume run last Friday. From Forest Gump to a life-size Running "M", we certainly had many creative costumes. Also, in case you haven't heard, 2004 Olympic silver medalist Meb Keflezighi won the NYC Marathon today in 2:09:15. Also Derartu Tulu, the Olympic gold medalist at 10,000 meters in 1992 and 2000 won her first New York women's title in 2:28:52. This week running times will be as follows (unless otherwise noted): Monday- 5:30PM Tuesday- 7:00PM <<work-out meet at Bierman Track Wednesday- 5:30PM <<jersey/shorts pickup Thursday- 5:30PM Friday- 4:30 PM Also, this Wednesday is jersey/shorts pick-up day! If you ordered something, make sure to come WITH your money. Checks can be made payable to The University Running Club. In case you forgot, it is $25/jersey and $22/shorts. Again, please make sure to attend Wednesday's run. We would like to get everything distributed, paid, and taken care of on Wednesday! If you will be unable to make it, please send us an e-mail. Finally, I would just like to remind everyone that Nationals are a little less than 2 weeks away. As most of you know by now, we will be departing for Ann Arbor, MI Thursday evening, racing Saturday morning, and arriving back at the U Sunday evening. Total cost will be right around $80 which includes hotel, gas, and race fee. Once again, I would like to congratulate everyone for the hard-work being put in this season, especially in this past week. During these next two weeks, let us not forget this, nor lose focus of the goals we have for Nationals. We have two pretty talented teams, with a lot of potential, that I know is capable of top performances. See you at the Gopher! Nicholas Van Ess Vice President
Hey Everyone, For those of you planning on running Nationals, this is the info I need from you to sign you up for the race (and verify that you are a student, not some dude we picked up from the street). Name Student ID # Undergrad or Grad student? Current Credit Load? Cumaltive GPA (above 2.0? yes or no) Academic Probation (yes or no)? Final Semester Student (yes or no)? Please let me know the following information by tomorrow at 3:00pm. Otherwise, and there is no extension on this, you WILL NOT BE COMING TO NATIONALS. Ryan The Prez
Hey again, Everyone that is planning on running at NIRCA nationals on Nov 14th, has to be completely payed up for club fees and any remaining hotel or race fees by THIS THURSDAY! If you have not payed your club fee, or still owe the club money for a previous race (I have a list of everyone that still owes us) than YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO COME TO NATIONALS! If you are unsure of if you owe us/how much you owe us than contact me immediately and I will let you know. We have to get papers signed a week before nationals, so no one can be late on their payment. Ryan
Hey TURC nation, Nick forgot to mention in the email for this week that this Friday is the TURC Halloween costume run! At 4:30 everyone should show up at the wooden gopher dressed up and ready to go. This is always a fun run and one of the highlights of the year, so please try and come! You don't need an elaborate costume, anything will do. Hope to see everyone there. Ryan P.S I would suggest not dressing up as a ninja by wearing all of your under armor (including full face mask) as I did last year. It was very hot and uncomfortable to breath through that thing. Just a fair warning.
Hey everyone, Just thought I would let everyone know that the workout schedule for this week is a little different than normal. On Tuesday, instead of having group one do a workout at 5:30, anyone who is interested in doing a workout will meet at Bierman Track at 7:00pm. On Thursday, the workout will be at 5:30, with everyone meeting at the wooden gopher like normal. In addition, because Nationals is coming up soon, we will also be having a workout this Saturday at 11:00am at Bierman Track. Everyone who is competing at Nationals should try to make these workouts. Ryan The Prez
TURC Members, This past Saturday our club competed in the NIRCA regional meet in Madison, WI. As always, the Minnesota Distance Project performed exceptionally well. Our men's team placed 4th while our women's team placed 2nd! This is quite an accomplishment for both teams that I'm sure will draw a lot of attention. Though I was unable to attend, I have ran at Pope Farms in past and know that it is difficult to say the least, so I would like to congratulate everyone who rose to the challenge this weekend. Next up for our team is the NIRCA National Meet on Saturday November 14 in Ann Arbor, MI! Details regarding the trip will be coming soon. Just as a heads up, we will leave that Thursday in the evening and return that Sunday. I estimate the total time from Minneapolis to Ann Arbor is roughly 10-11 hr. The schedule for this week is as follows: Mon- 5:30pm Tues- 5:30pm Wed- 5:30pm Thur- 5:30pm Fri-4:30pm We've been having a great turnout so far, so let's keep it up! Finally, jerseys/shorts are on their way to get screen-printed. I know it's going to be the last cross country race of season when we get to use them, but it is the most important! Also, don't worry; you'll be ready for the local 5Ks and track meets TURC likes to participate in during the spring! As I stated before, I would like to collect money before they arrive so it will be less of a hassle when we distribute everything. Remember if you ordered something, we expect you to follow-through with your purchase. Most of what we buy for the club comes out of our own pockets, and we expect to get reimbursed. Again, bring $25/top and $22/bottom. That is all I have for this week. Congrats once again to everyone who competed this weekend! I enjoy seeing the improvements being made, and I am very impressed with the development of our program. See you at the gopher! Nicholas Van Ess Vice President
Hey everyone, This is what I have for people coming to Madison this weekend. If you signed up for the race but are not on my list please email right away. Also, IF YOU ARE ABLE TO DRIVE, PLEASE LET ME KNOW, WE STILL NEED AT LEAST ONE MORE DRIVER, OTHERWISE WE WILL HAVE SOME VERY TIGHTLY PACKED CARS. Guys: Michael K Steele L Hal B Chris F Keith B Tyler M Evan B Colin Z Paul S Slavo T Michael S Zach K Andy P Josh D Girls: Libby Z Molly W Erin B Brittany P Cassandra M Candice T Drivers: Andy P Slavo T Josh D Keith B We will be leaving from the wooden gopher at 6pm. However, one of our drivers will be leaving at 4:30pm so if you can make it then, let me know and I'll let you know if you are placed in his car (he only has room for two). Also, the plan so far is to leave Sunday morning to return to Minneapolis. If you absolutely have to be back by Saturday night or early Sunday morning, let me know and I'll try to figure something out.
Hey guys, If everyone that signed up to compete in Madison this weekend could respond to this email so that I can get a head count that would be great. Also, if you are able to drive please let me know. Ryan
Hey everyone, Just wanted to send out a notice that if you want to run NIRCA regionals in Madison, you must go to www.clubrunning.org and register for the Midwest Regional before Friday. The cost is $15 that you will bring to the race. Normally register everyone but they require info that I do not have on everyone. If you have any problems with the registration contact me at 262-909-8424. As for the trip itself, we will be departing Friday night and staying both Friday and Saturday night. We are not getting hotels because so many of our members have friends in Madison that they can stay with. If you do not know anyone that goes UW-Madison we will find someone for you to stay with. The trip should be a lot of fun. If you have questions call me immediately, again, 2629098424. Ryan
For Everyone Racing in the La Crosse Meet, I know I usually don't send out racing information; however, I just wanted to let everyone know that I found a few hotels that we should definitely consider for Friday evening. Assuming we have 14 runners... Super 8- La Crosse 1625 Rose Street 4 Rooms Available (2 Queens/Room) $89 X 4 rm = $26/person Bookstore Inn- La Crosse 1830 Rose Street 4 Rooms Available $80 X 4 rm = $23/person Also: Howard Johnson's, Settle Inn, Americas Best Value Inn, Econo Lodge La Crosse all are around $75-$85 Also I thought I'd make an outline on what I'd expect for the weekend: Friday Oct. 16 5:45 PM- Meet outside the Rec and leave for La Crosse ~9:00 PM- Arrive in La Crosse Saturday Oct. 17 8:30 AM- Go to Maple Grove Country Club - West Salem, WI 10:30 PM- Jim Drews Race (Men) 8K 11:30 PM- Tori Neubauer Race (Women) 6K 12:30/1:00- Head back to Minnesota I'm guessing cost will be $15 race, ~$28 hotel, + Gas and Food. So I would say $60 at the most depending on room accommodations. **Finally, I heard that registration for the NIRCA Midwest Regional in Madison is due TOMORROW October 15th. I know this is last minute, but I just found this out.** As for La Crosse, this is just what I am assuming and is in response to several concerns at TURC today, so I hope this helps. Either Daye or I will send out a follow up email regarding the La Crosse status tomorrow.
Hey everyone, Just wanted to send everyone a reminder that the Saving Second Base 5k hosted by the CAC in partnership with our club is this saturday at 2pm. The race proceeds all go to the Relay for Life and there will be games and free food post race. The winners of the race will be presented with bras that increase in size the higher you place (sounds better than any trophy Ive ever heard of) so it would be awesome if we could get some TURC runners to show up and represent us well. If you do not want to race you can volunteer as well. All volunteers will recieve a free tshirt (Ive seen the design and they are awesome) so let me know if you are interested. Also, to help with recruitment TURC will have a table set up at the race so if you want to help with that, again let me know. I have attached the race registration form, so sign up! Ryan
Hey TURC nation, This saturday is the Lacrosse Drews/Neubar Invite in La Crosse, WI. If you want to race with us please respond to this email or reply on facebook no later than noon tomorrow. I know this is short notice and I apologize for any inconvience. If you are able to join us, we will be leaving from the wooden gopher in front of the rec at 6pm on Friday. We will be staying in a hotel, a very cheap one,(which one is to be determined)and on saturday, the men will race at 10:30am while the women will be racing at 11:30am. The price of entry will all depend on the amount of people that come to race, as we have to pay a flat team fee (I expect it to be about $15 to $20 at most), so I encourage as many people as want to come to do so. Overall, this should be a very fun and exciting trip as this will be the first time TURC has participated in this race, and it is the first time we will go head to head with the evil Wisconsin Track Club (these guys make Darth Vader look like the easter bunny). I hope a lot of people can come race and, if we are successful, maybe we can steal the title of "The Pride of Minnesota" from the marching band. President of the only group on campus that will still be meeting outside when its 20 below zero, Ryan
Members of TURC, Congratulations to all our runners who participated in the Eau Claire Blugold Invite this past Friday! Once again, both our men's and women's teams did a great job mixing it up with the D-III schools. Also, I would like to give special recognition to both Colin Zauner and Hal Brown for placing 18th and 20th, seeing that Eau Claire decided to discount their finishes during awards. Nevertheless, I believe this meet proved to be successful. For a complete list of results you can visit www.pttiming.com. Also, congratulations to everyone who participated in the Twin Cities Marathon today! I hope everyone had a great race! Next, the schedule for this week is as follows. Mon- 5:30 PM Tues- 5:30 PM Wed- 5:30 PM (Jersey Day) Thurs- 5:30 PM Fri- 4:30 PM (Bring-A-Friend to TURC Day) This Wednesday is Jersey Day. Therefore, if you have a cross country or track jersey from high school or elsewhere, please wear it and represent your school for a day. In addition, this Friday is Bring-A-Friend to TURC Day! This has been a fun event in past years and is a great way to help expand the club. Everyone usually runs together, and we go about 3 miles or fewer. Following our run, we will make our way over to Ben and Jerry's for ice cream. Finally, in case you haven't heard already, TURC is on Flotrack! That is to say, we are now on the greatest website for running coverage, so check it out: http://www.flotrack.org/videos/coverage/view_video/235653-2009-roy-griak-invitational/202204-minnesota-distance-project-after-2009-roy-griak That's about all for now. Also remember that if you want a jersey, please let us know. Cost will be around $45, and we will need your payment ahead of time. Thanks, Nicholas Van Ess Vice President
Esteemed members of The University Running Club, Thought I would add to Nick's email since there was a lot missing. First, Eau Claire is this Friday; women race at 4pm, men at 5pm. We will be leaving from the wooden gopher at 1:15pm on Friday. The deadline to let me know if you are racing will be this Tuesday at 11:59pm (have to have names in by midday wednesday).Race fee is only $10! Also, jersey orders are due this week. If you want a jersey you must let me know by Friday so that I can place the order over the weekend. Please tell me the size jersey and size shorts you want. Cost is anticipated to be about $40-$45 and I will collect money next week at any of our runs. If you have not seen our jersey, simply go to our website at tc.clubrunning.org to see pictures of them. Finally, t-shirt orders will not be for a couple of weeks, as jerseys are our top priority at the moment. When it comes time for t-shirt orders, we will send out an email with more details. (note: respond to eau claire race and/or jersey orders by either emailing this account or responding on facebook) Your President, Ryan
Members of TURC, Congratulations to everyone who participated in Griak this past Saturday! Though the course was tough, the meet was huge, and this was our first race of the year, both our men's and women's teams looked very strong. I look forward to seeing what we can do this Friday at Eau Claire. Also, thank you everyone who came to watch us and that ended up driving us as well. Next, the schedule for this week is as follows. Mon- 5:30 PM Tues- 5:30 PM Wed- 5:30 PM Thurs- 5:30 PM Like always, meet by the wooden gopher near the Rec Center. Also, please note that we will not be meeting on Friday. This Friday, Oct. 2, our club will be crossing the border and traveling to Eau Claire. We will be competing in the 2009 UW-Eau Claire Blugold Invite. The race will be run on the Whitetail Golf Course. I have yet to hear from Ryan regarding the details, but I believe we will leave somewhere around 1PM. Women race at 4PM and Men race at 5PM. Again, it will be a 6K for women and an 8K for men. I know many of you needed to know our race schedule, so here's what's happening. Oct. 2- Blugold Open Oct. 17- Lacrosse Drews/Neubar Invitational Oct. 24- NIRCA Regional @ Pope Farms in Madison Nov. 14- NIRCA NATIONALS in Ann Arbor, MI That's about all for now. Also remember that if you want a jersey, please let us know. I do not know when Ryan wants to place an order, but I can assure you that it will be within the next week. Cost will be around $40 and we will need your payment ahead of time. Thanks, Nicholas Van Ess Vice President
Hey everyone, Quick rundown on tomorrow. We will be meeting by the wooden gopher at 8:30am. ONLY RACERS WILL BE RECEIVING A RIDE. Make sure also to bring $30 cash or check (made out to: The University of Minnesota) for race fee. If you get there on your own, you must pick up your race packet by 9:30am. If anyone has any questions, call me at 262-909-8424. Ryan
Hey TURC Nation, Well it finally looks like we will get to have our first meeting after all. This Thursday at 8pm, in the third floor board room of Coffman Memorial Union (we will be there showing everyone where to go if you cant find it), TURC will be having our beginning of the year informational meeting to discuss everything you need to know about this upcoming year. We will go over racing, fundraising, finances, social events, and more so please every member of TURC, try to come! I don't want anyone to miss out on any important information. Also, as I hope everyone already knows, this Saturday several memebers of TURC (or should I say The Minnesota Distance Project) will be competing in the Roy Griak Cross Country Invitational! This will be our first year competing in this HUGE event and it would be awesome if we could get as many people as possible to come cheer us all on. Don't worry, admission is free for anyone with a university i.d. The TURC women will be racing at 9:45am and the TURC men will race at 11:20am, so please come out and be loud, maybe even a little obnoxious, and perhaps even try body painting, though its not required (but highly encouraged). Your President, and much better email writer than the current Vice President, Ryan
To All members of TURC, Once again, we had another great turnout this week. The volleyball match ended up being a success, and it looked like everyone was able to find a few things at Run N Fun today. Like always, TURC will be meeting Mon-Thurs at 5:30 and Fri at 4:30. Also, TURC will be taking orders for jerseys and shorts. You are not required to buy them, though they are of Asics mesh material and fit quite nice. And If you are racing, you should get them. Again, you can visit http://www.tc.clubrunning.org/ to see what they look like. Men's have a more orange/gold tint while women's have more of a yellow/gold tine. Otherwise, they are basically the same. We are thinking they will cost between $40 and $45. If you are interested please let us know. Finally, this Saturday September 26, fifteen+ of TURC's elite will be competing in the 2009 Roy Griak Invitational. This is TURC's first time attending this race, so we invite everyone to come and support the team. The meet will be held on the U of M Les Bolstad Golf Course in St. Paul. I believe admission is free with a University I.D. For more information you can visit http://www.gophersports.com/SportSelect.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=8400&SPID=3309&SPSID=71624 or join the event page on facebook! That is about all for now. See you by the gopher. Vice President Vanny V
Hey Everyone, This is just a reminder that tomorrow, Friday September 18, TURC meets at 4:30pm. Following our run we will be playing volleyball across from the gopher. We encourage everyone to come and participate. Also, this Sunday September 20, TURC will be going to Run N Fun Running Store. We will meet by the gopher and will leave at 11:00 AM. Please let us know if you are coming. In addition, TURC will be ordering team informs. They will be the same as last year. You can visit http://tc.clubrunning.org/ (our website) to see what they look like. More information regarding cost and order deadline will be in the next email. Finally, TURC would like to team up with Colleges Against Cancer and assist in a 5K fun run benefiting breast cancer. The day of the race will be on Saturday October 17. If you are interested in helping or participating we can send you more information. For those of you who are in the Distance Project, we will be in La Crosse that weekend for the annual UW-La Crosse Drews/Neubauer Invite. That's about it for now. See you all tomorrow for some exciting volleyball!!!! Vice President of the fastest, hopefully the largest, and definitely the greatest club on campus, Nicholas Van Ess
TURC Nation, I hope everyone enjoyed our first few runs together. I was very impressed by everyone this week. This has certainly been the largest turnout in TURC history! Again, TURC will be meeting at 5:30PM Mon-Thurs and at 4:30PM on Fri by the gopher in front of the Rec Center. Friday this week TURC will be having a just-for-fun volleyball match across from the gopher. Everyone is welcome to come, and don't worry it shouldn't be too competitive. Also, there has been a change in plans for our trip to Run N Fun running store. Due to the football game on Saturday, we will be going on Sunday Sept. 20. We will send more information on where and when to meet as we get closer. Next, if you are interested in racing in the 2009 Roy Griak Invitational, we must know by tomorrow evening Monday Sept. 14. The cost is $30 per person and is on Saturday Sept. 26. It is run on The University of Minnesota Les Bolstad Golf Course in St. Paul. We will be competing in the D2 race for both men and women. Women race at 9:45 AM and men race at 11:20 AM. Lastly, if you are a new member and want more information or have any questions, please let us know. Well that is about everything for this week. I hope we can keep this attendance up again. Seriously, that was awesome! EL vicepresidente, Nicholas Van Ess
Hey TURC nation, The most important thing to mention in this email is that there is NO MEETING TONIGHT. Due to a scheduling conflict with Coffman, the meeting will probably be held next week sometime (more on this later). Second, welcome all incoming freshmen and new TURC runners! This looks to be a very exciting year for TURC as we continue to grow and confirm that we are indeed the coolest club on campus. A little information about our club: TURC meets Monday-Friday and occasionally on weekends. Monday-Thursday we meet at 5:30pm and Friday at 4:30pm and always in front of the wooden gopher by the rec. When we do meet we split up our large group of runners of all ability levels into groups based on how far and fast you want to go that day. No one will ever be left behind and, due to the size of our club, it is virtually guaranteed that you will find someone of your same ability level. Please never be intimidated, the main goal of our club is to provide a fun atmosphere for people to meet and run with others who share their love for running. Also, please note that our club is non-committal. You can run with us whenever you have time, there is no up front club fee, and we do not require that you ever race if you don't want to (though we do encourage it :-) ). For the rest of this week we will follow our normal run schedule. Today we meet at 5:30 and tomorrow at 4:30. If anyone has any questions just send me an email and let me know. Your President, Ryan
Hey TURC nation, Its late right now, so I'm going to make this short and sweet. Our first run is Wednesday (today!) at 5:30 in front of the rec. Our first meeting is from 7-8:30 at Coffman in room 324. This Friday morning, starting at 10:00 am, TURC will be participating in paint the bridge. Please let me know if you plan on coming so I know how much help to expect. In addition to Wednesday, the rest of the week goes as follows: Thursday: 5:30 in front of the rec Friday: 4:30 in front of the rec If you have any questions, just let me know. P.S I will be sending out another email tomorrow for incoming freshman to TURC so if I repeat information, I apologize. President of the club that will hopefully soon be the biggest on campus, Ryan
Hey everyone, Seeing as it was so late last night when I wrote the most recent email, it appears I forget to mention that the first meeting is THURSDAY, NOT TODAY, at 7 in room 324 in Coffman Union. I apologize if anyone was confused or canceled plans for tonight because of the mistake. Also, as was stated before, our first run is in fact TONIGHT at 5:30 in front of the wooden gopher by the rec. I hope to see you all there. Ryan
Hey TURC nation, I hope everyone is excited as I am for the upcoming TURC year. I have a few quick announcements about getting things rolling this semester, so here goes. First, as Nick said in the last email, our first run will be on Wednesday Sept 9th at 5:30 pm in front of the wooden gopher. Second, our first and most important team meeting of the year will take place on Thursday Sept 10th from 7-8:30 pm (not sure on the room number yet, but as soon as I find out I will let everyone know). At this meeting we will be going over what to expect for the upcoming semester such as social events, and also taking ideas for club promotion and fundraising. Also, it is a great opportunity for new members to come and see what TURC is all about (in a word: GREATNESS). As for gearing up for the season, on Saturday September 19th TURC will be traveling to Run N Fun, a great specialty running store in St Paul, where we will be given 25% off of all shoes and 20% off of all apparel. On that Saturday we will meet up as a group and carpool to the store, time yet to be determined. This is a great oppurtunity for everyone to get whatever they need for running this semester as the store has pretty much everything you can think off. On a final note, I am still trying to figure out what time we are going to be doing Paint the Bridge, as my own scheldule on the first day of that event is very busy. It is very likely that we will be painting the bridge starting Friday morning around 10 and going until we are done. However, as soon as I am sure on the exact details I will let everyone know. Okay, thats all I have for right now. I cant wait to see everyone next week. As always, if anyone has any questions just let me know. President of the most amazing club this side of the Mississippi, Ryan
Ladies and Gentlemen of T.U.R.C.: First off, I hope everybody?s summer is going/went well and is looking forward to another school year. I know we still have a little more than a week until classes actually begin; however, I thought I should inform everyone of what T.U.R.C. has planned for the upcoming school year. Once again T.U.R.C. will be meeting at 5:30 PM Monday-Thursday and at 4:30 PM on Friday. We will be keeping up with tradition and will be meeting by the wooden gopher in between Cook Hall and the Rec Center. As you all know, everyone is welcome and nobody gets left behind. We will officially meet Wednesday September 9 at 5:30 PM. As most of you know, we always want to expand the club. Already we have planned on taking part in a few activities and events in hopes of getting our name out there. Next Saturday we will be running a booth at the Welcome Week Student Activities Fair. If anyone is around and would like to help, please let us know. Also, on September 10 and 11 T.U.R.C. will take part in the Paint The Bridge ?09. Again, we encourage everyone who wants to contribute to attend especially if you are artistic and creative. In addition, I know others brought up the idea of chalking-the-campus, which we will definitely do. Like always, if anyone has any other ideas to promote the club, let us know. Next, we will have both a T.U.R.C. and Distance Project meeting sometime within the first few weeks of September inside Coffman Union. And of course, we plan on having a few social events again this season. More information on this will follow. For everyone who is racing and needs information regarding the meets we will be attending this fall, please inform us. I will be sending more in-depth reports as we get closer to our first race. Lastly, if you are a freshman or a new member, please notify us so we can send you more information about the club and answer any questions you may have. As always, enjoy the rest of the summer, prepare for your classes, and of course be ready to run this fall! VP, Nicholas Van Ess
Hey TURC nation, I just found out that some of the members of TURC still in Minneapolis are getting together this summer to run. They meet every tuesday and thursday at 5 p.m in front of the wooden gopher by the rec center. Hopefully if you are up in that area you can make it a couple of times. Until later, Ryan
Hey TURC nation, How is everyone's summer running going? (I hope your first reaction to that question wasn't: what summer running?) Anyways, I have a couple important things to discuss concerning the upcoming school year. First, I have pieced together a possible racing schedule for this fall, that may change depending on how the year progresses. The schedule is as follows: Sept 24: Roy Griak Invitational Oct 2: Blu Gold Open Oct 17: Lacrosse Drews/Neubar Invite Oct 24: NIRCA Regionals in Madison, WI (we will definitely need to do our hill work in order to prepare for this brutal course) Nov 14: NIRCA Nationals Also, somewhere in here I may try and work out another dual meet with Wisconsin (maybe we can actually get them to come up to the cities this year). Second, I have registered TURC for the 2009 Paint the Bridge (Washington Avenue Bridge). I have reserved two panels for TURC to paint to spread the word about the best club on campus (and to replace that monstrosity from two years ago). So, if anyone has ideas for what should be on the panel (design, information, etc.) let me know. Also, we will obviously need people to help out, so if you can, try and remember to keep Sept 10 and 11 open. Alright everyone thats all I have for now. Remember to keep running this summer and keep a look out for a few more updates before summer's end. Your President, Ryan
Hey everyone, A quick correction: In the previous email I said that I had created the group "TURC Summer Running" on facebook to help anyone in need of a running buddy in the twin cites this summer. However, I did not create a group but instead an event by the same name. My apologies to anyone who looked for the group and could not find it. If anyone has trouble finding the event on facebook just send me an email and Ill help you out. Ryan
Hey members of TURC nation! I know its been awhile since I sent out an email, but this summer has been kind of hectic so far (I have been working third shift, 11pm - 7am). Anyways, lately I have been recieving emails questioning whether TURC meets in the summer. While the answer is unfortunately no, I have presented what I consider to be a good option for those of you in the cities this summer looking for someone to run with. On Facebook I have created the group "TURC Summer Running" with the hopes that anyone in TURC looking for someone to run with will join the group so that other members may message them, or post something on the wall proposing a run, or something of that nature. I hope this helps anyone in the cities in need of a running buddy or two until we all come back in the fall. Speaking of fall, I can't wait until TURC starts up again. Nick and I have big plans for this year including possibilities such as a TURC hosted 5k, TURC goes rock climbing, and TURC runs the USATF road mile championship in Minneapolis, to name a few. Also, I am looking to beef up our racing scheldule for this fall (first race: Roy Griak Invitational) so a reminder to all those looking to compete this year, keep running and build up your base this summer because come fall, its on like Donkey Kong. Alright everyone thats all I have for now, but I will be sending out another update soon (within a week or two) so keep a heads up for that. If anyone has any questions or suggestions for TURC this year feel free to send me an email at run@umn.edu. Until later, Ryan
Hey everyone, Recently I have been getting inquiries into when those of you who missed last weeks meeting can pick up the t-shirts you ordered. Therefore I am presenting the following options: Thurs, May 7: 5:00-5:20 I will be by the Wooden Gopher in front of the rec with the shirts. In order to pick yours up you must pay me then. The cost for the shirts is $15. Check or Cash will work. Fri, May 8: 4:10-4:30 In front of the wooden gopher If neither if the above times works for you please contact me directly (dayex002@umn.edu) and suggest a time that would work best for you. On another note, this Friday is the Minnesota Open at Bierman track and, as mentioned before, our own Colin Zauner will be competing. His race starts at 6:30 so please, anyone that can make it, come show your support for a fellow member of TURC! Alright that all I have for now. Good luck with finals everyone and remember, keep running! Ryan
Hey TURC nation, This is Ryan your new president (I apologize ahead of time if my email this week is not of the quality of former vice president Chris Disalvi, but I will try. Plus, next semester this will mostly be vice president Nick Van Ess' job, so no worries.) First of all, let me start of by saying how honored I am to be serving as your president. I am looking forward to next semester and can assure you the best is yet to come for TURC (later this week I will send out an email outlining some of TURC's goals for next year). With that being said let me also say that Nick and I both know that we have big shoes to fill. Both Steele and Chris were amazing leaders and the club owes a tremendous amount of its success to them. The time and effort they put into the club is astounding and I know everyone can join with me in saying that they will be sorely missed in the future and that we all wish them success in anything they do. As for this upcoming week, I know that many of you will be busy with finals just around the corner (sigh) but I want to encourage everyone to try and make it to any run they can this week, as this will be the last week that TURC meets for the rest of this school year. The run scheldule is as follows: Mon: 5:30 (all runs except tuesday meet in front of the wooden gopher outside the rec) Tue: 7:00 (Bierman Track) Wed: 5:30 Thu: 5:30 Fri: 4:30* Last TURC run of the semester. *On Friday I want to encourage everyone to please try and come. Since it is the last TURC run of the semester the plan is that everyone that shows up will run together (a nice, easy group run) as a final TURC send off. Afterwards, anyone that wants to come is invited to come to Ben and Jerry's for ice cream. Finally I want to remind everyone that on Friday May,8 the Minnesota Open will be going on at Bierman Track. In this meet will be our very own Colin Zauner and Evan Baeten! So, anyone that can make it I would encourage to come and cheer them on. (not sure on the race times as of yet, but again, I will send out an email soon with this information.) Alright members of TURC, as Chris would say, that all Ive got for now. I hope to see you in front of the wooden gopher this week, and remember finals only last a week, so please, no one jump of the Washington Avenue bridge in frustration. Instead, to relieve all that stress, go running! Until later, Ryan
Hey there TURC Nation, I hope you all had an excellent Spring Jam! I know I did. I went to one huge party over the weekend. Man, it was so fun...it was a "riot!" haha Actually, I am kind of glad to be going back to school tomorrow. I gotta say, I am definitely a bit "burned out" from all the partying this weekend! haha (I'm sorry, I like puns a lot. And just to be clear, I was not at the riot at all. Anyway, here is the schedule for the week: Monday: 5:30 pm Tuesday: 7:00 pm At Bierman Track Wednesday 5:30 pm Thursday: TURC ELECTION NIGHT AND T-SHIRT PICK-UP!*** Friday: 4:30 pm Sunday: Frisbee??? I am afraid the season might be over for us :( Like always, we meet at the Wooden Gopher unless otherwise mentioned. Which of course, leads me to mention the TURC Election on Thursday evening! The election will be at 4:30 in Room 325 in Coffman. We would really like to have a large turn out for the meeting so we can have an accurate officer election. Also, we will be handing out t-shirts at the same time. If you ordered a shirt please come and pick it up at the meeting. If you can't make it for whatever the reason, please let me know ASAP when and where a good time for you to meet us for your shirt. The cost is 15 dollars and checks should be made out to "The University Running Club." Ok folks, that's all I got. I hope you all have a great week and we will see you out running soon! Sincerely, Chris DiSalvi VP of TURC Hello Legion of TURC, I was just alerted by our president of an alarming typo in the last e-mail. In order to make sure no one confuses us a lawless band of hooligans, The University Running Club DOES NOT condone rioting in any way, shape or form. Sorry if there was any confusion... Sincerely, Chris DiSalvi Embarassed Vice President
And The University Running Club condones rioting in any way, shape or form.) Anyway, here is the schedule for the week: Monday: 5:30 pm Tuesday: 7:00 pm At Bierman Track Wednesday 5:30 pm Thursday: TURC ELECTION NIGHT AND T-SHIRT PICK-UP!*** Friday: 4:30 pm Sunday: Frisbee??? Hey TURC Friends, I am guessing you all probably assumed this but ultimate has been cancelled. Sorry everyone. -Chris DiSalvi
Hello TURC Nation, I hope I didn't confuse anyone. Frisbee is at SUNDAY, TODAY at 3 pm at the West Bank Softball fields. We'll meet at the Gopher at 2:30. (One day I will stop putting so many typos in my e-mails...) See you there! Sincerely, Chris DiSalvi
Hello TURC Nation, I know the subject kinda gives it away, but this is just another reminder that TURC will be playing some more Ultimate this Saturday at 3pm at the West Bank Softball fields. We'll meet at the Wooden Gopher at 2:30 pm. See you then! Continue Spring Jamming! Sincerely, Chris DiSalvi
Dear TURC Nation, I just wanted to remind you all that the registeration for the Get In Gear 5K, 10K, and half marathon on Saturday APRIL 25 is TODAY. Please let me know if you are going to race in the event by tomorrow as you have to pick up your bib the on Friday. If you have any questions, please let me know. Its a great race that should be a lot of fun! Also, officer elections will be next Thursday at 4:30 pm at Coffman. Make sure to send in a haiku if you are interested in running for a position. We will be handing out t-shirts as well that night. If you signed up for a shirt, please pick it up that night. The cost is $15. Checks are preferred and should be made out to "The University Running Club." Sorry to keep bugging you all with these e-mails. See you soon. Sincerely, Chris DiSalvi VP of TURC
Hi TURC Nation, Sorry for another TURC news letter, but I just wanted to tell you all more about the Get In Gear 5K, 10K, and Half-Marathon on Saturday, March 25. The registration for the race ends THRURSDAY, MARCH 23(TODAY) AT MIDNIGHT! THERE IS NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION! I am sorry for the last minute info, I just found out tonight. Here is the rough game plan for the day: Meet at the Wooden Gopher at 7:00 am (please try and get there on time) Ride the MetroTransit to the race site, Minnehaha Park, at roughly 8:00 am Race at 9 Leave around 10:30 am (more or less depending on what people want) Arrive back on campus around noon If you want to go but not race, we could always use photographers, so let us know. So just to reiterate, the registration ends TODAY at MIDNIGHT. Make sure to sign up. And as long as I have your attention, I just wanted to encourage everyone to run for a TURC leadership position. The only requirement is that you write a haiku (5 syllables-7 syllables-5 syllables) about why you would be a great leader or like to run. (Yes you have to do it, but don't hurt yourself doing it...). We will probably hold a meeting at Coffman to decide these positions and hand out T-shirts. If you have any questions, please send us an e-mail. Ok folks, sorry again for the interuption. I hope you all have a great day and make sure to sign up TODAY for the Get in Gear! Sincerely, Chris DiSalvi Vice President of TURC...for now...
Dear TURC Nation, I hope you all are doing well. Sure, I know we have a lot of end-of-semester tests and projects coming. Fortunately, its Spring Jam this week, so there should be a lot of fun stuff going down for us all to look forward to. And even if there isn't, you always know that you got TURC's always got great stuff planned! (I'm sorry, I know that's a corny intro, but that's the best I can do tonight...) Here is the gameplan for this week: Monday: 5:30 pm Tuesday 7:00 pm at Bierman (Sorry for all those who couldn't make it to the 5:30 workout last week) Wednesday 5:30 pm Thursday 5:30 pm Friday 5:30 pm Saturday: GET-IN-GEAR 5K, 10K AND HALF-MARATHON! WOOT! WOOT!* Sunday: Ultimate Frisbee!** meet at the gopher at 2:30 -All runs meet at the Wooden Gopher in front of the Rec unless otherwise mentioned. Remember, we are always looking for new members to join. We usually are able to separate into group according to ability level, so you should never have to worry about getting left behind. So if you got friends, bring 'em! *TURC will once again be attending the annual Get-In-Gear race in Minnehaha Park this Saturday. Its an awesome (and for sure legitimate) that consistently gets a turn-out around 8,000. If you don't have anything going on Saturday morning, you all for sure should attend this race! Check your inboxes and Facebooks for more information... **Also, another reminder that we have another Ultimate Frisbee game this Saturday. If you would like to play, please send me an e-mail so I can add you to the roster before Friday. If you don't remember in time, just come anyway, it should probably be ok. This afternoon we had to forfeit our game since we didn't have enough people there. I have some other good news as well...I ordered the official 2007-2008 TURC t-shirts last Thursday! The guy at the printing place told me they should be here by April 28th, just in time for us to represent TURC at the end of the year! The cost for the t-shirts is $15 and we would prefer that you write a check to "The University Running Club." In addition, we will be having elections for TURC leadership positions at the end of the month. While its sad for me to bequeath my position (and believe me, I hate bequeathing...its makes a big mess...haha) I am definitely excited to see what a new generation take control of TURC's future! Positions include: President Vice President Treasurer Secretary Fundraising Supervisor Webmaster In order to get on the ballot, you explain to us why you feel you would make an excellent TURC leader...in the form of a haiku. :) Finally, if you get a chance, check out this video of TURC All-Star Hal Brown finishing the Barcelona Marathon. ->http://www.barcelonamarato.es/runnerstv/?r=95 And before I forget, best of luck to TURC alumni Mike Peterka and Issac Landecker in tomorrows Boston Marathon! Go get 'em guys! Ok folks that's all I got. Thanks for sticking with me through such a long e-mail. I hope you all have a great week, enjoy Spring Jam, and we will see you at the Wooden Gopher! Sincerely, Chris DiSalvi Soon to be ex-Vice President of The University Running Club
Hello TURC Nation, I have tried calling the Intramural Weather Hotline a couple times now and it keeps playing an old message. As a result, I am guessing Ultimate Frisbee is still a go. We will meet over by the Wooden Gopher at 2:30 for our 3pm game. If things change and the game is cancelled, obviously I will let you all know, so keep an eye on your inboxes. See you all later today, Chris DiSalvi
Hello TURC gangstas, I hope you all had a solid weekend. I was looking at the calender and it dawned on me that we only have a month left of school. That means only like 20 runs, give or take, this year. We better make them count... Fortunately, we got some great stuff going on this week. Here is this weeks schedule: Monday: 5:30 pm Tuesday 5:30 pm (NOTE CHANGE) Track workout at Bierman Wednesday: 5:30 pm Thursday: 5:30 pm Friday: 4:30pm *BASKETBALL SHOWDOWN TO FOLLOW Sunday: ULTIMATE FRISBEE!!! Meet at Wooden Gopher at 2:30 Game @ 3 pm -All runs meet at the Wooden Gopher unless otherwise mentioned. *After the run on Friday the Club will shootaround at the basketball courts at the Superblock. Hopefully we can play some H-O-R-S-E, 21, 3-on-3 or something. You all should definitely be there. Also, if someone from the Superblock could either grab a basketball after the run, that would be awesome. Ok folks, that's all I got. I hope you all have a great week and we will see YOU at the wooden gopher! Sincerely, Chris DiSalvi
Hey TURC Nation, Happy early Easter! I hope the Easter Bunny is kind to you all tomorrow morning! Just to clarify, there is NO ultimate frisbee tomorrow. It appears we will our campaign of frisbee domination will have to be put on hold yet another week. Sorry about that guys. I hope you all enjoy the rest of your break and we will see you Monday! Sincerely, Chris DiSalvi
hey everyone, We had planned to be inside for the workout but it is simply to nice outside so we will be moving the workout outside to bierman track. Meet there tonight at 7:00 pm Steele
Hello TURC Nation, I hope you all enjoyed The 5K Run For Research this Saturday. In case you weren't able to make it, TURC represented strongly by earning almost all the top spots in both the guys and girls races. Plus, I'm pretty everyone who ran it earned a new PR (we will just overlook the fact it was just a little short...haha). I also want to give props to Laura, Justin and Alan for the awesome photos of the race. Make sure to check them out on the TURC group page on Facebook or on www.tc.clubrunning.org (sure to be posted soon). Hello TURC Nation, I just wanted to let you all know that we will be having our speed workout at the Fieldhouse NOT at Bierman Track. Hello TURC Nation, I hope that you all are having a great Spring Break. So far I have been resting, running and work on my tan. (Ok, I am in Green Bay right now, so I guess I haven't tanned at all, but I have been definitely running and resting. Maybe a new version of "R&R"?) Anyway, I just wanted to remind you all of the upcoming race in Eau Claire the Saturday after we return. It should be an awesome time, check it out at the Facebook event site, "TURC Invades Eau Claire!!!" or at this website: http://www.uwec.edu/sata/springthaw/ Right now I have 6 people confirmed on the Facebook event page, 21 "Maybes" and 76 "Awaiting Replies". You do not have to make up your mind right away, but if you are going I do need you to confirm on the event page or send run@umn.edu a e-mail saying you will be attending by Monday, March 23 (the first day back at school). Also, if anyone is interested in attending and could drive people to and from the race, that would be awesome! We have 6 attending so far and my car can only hold 5. Ok folks, that's all I got. Enjoy the rest of your break and we hope to see you at Cooke Hall next week! Sincerely, Chris DiSalvi
Hello TURC Nation, How are y'all? I bet you all are looking forward to Spring Break. As for me, presently I am waiting for my laundry to get done downstairs...sigh. A little lesson for all the freshmen reading this: don't start you're laundry at 11pm at night. Its just not worth it... Oh well, I digress. On a brighter note, its one more week until spring break! And what better way to get in shape for the beaches in Cancun than to go running with The University Running Club! For all those who just signed up for the e-mails at the Health Expo, here are the times we meet: Monday 5:30pm Tuesday 7:00pm Meet in the Fieldhouse. Wednesday 5:30pm Thursday 5:30pm All runs meet at Cooke Hall unless otherwise mentioned. Also, please note that we are NOT meeting Friday for a run. In addition, we will not be having any runs on Spring Break. Before I go, I want to go over some quick news. First off, a big thanks to all those who helped out at the Health Expo! I think we did a great job hosting the event and we really appreciate all the volunteers who came out and helped! Next, make sure to keep your calendar open for Wednesday, March 25. TURC will be having a FREE pizza party with the Minnesota Swarm of the National Lacrosse League and Wells Fargo! More details will be coming your way soon, so check your inboxes and your Facebook accounts. Speaking of Facebook, make sure you keep an eye open for the TURC 5K race in Eau Claire. Presently, the trip looks like a go, but I still need to know exactly who wants to go. I'll send you an event invite with more details (and of course if you don't have facebook, I can send you another copy of the info). All I ask is that you do me a favor and either sign up you will be attending or not attending. Finally, if you would like to be included on the TURC Roster website make sure you send us your name, hometown, racing PR's, and running photo. OK folks, that's all I got. Just in time too, I think my laundry is done! YES! Anyway, I hope you all have a great week and we hope to see you at Cooke Hall this week! Sincerely, Chris DiSalvi Vice President The University Running Club

Steele
Good morning/afternoon/evening TURC Nation, I am going to apologize in advance for this e-mail. Usually I collaborate with "the Boss" (aka Steele Lorenz, our fearless leader) before I write these e-mails, but I can't get a hold of him right now, so I am kind of going to wing this e-mail. Please bear with me... First off, the times for the week are posted on www.tc.clubrunning.org. Even if you know our times by heart, check out the website. Our webmaster, Justin Wilmert has done an awesome job maintaining our website and I want to make sure everyone has gotten a look at it. Along with our website, we haven't had anyone so far send us any info for our upcoming "roster page." If you are a registered member, send us your name, hometown, running pic, and some PR's in past races. If you want to include yourself in the roster, but don't feel comfortable putting a picture or something like that, that's totally ok, you can send us what you're comfortable with or not send anything at all either. We just thought that this would be a nice addition. If you have questions on being an "official member" ask one of us at a run or shoot us an e-mail. Next thing is the Eau Claire race. I have gotten a lot of questions about it so far, so I want to try and clear that up. It is not a track race or official NCAA race by any means. It is a campus 5K, similar to Run for Research, held on Saturday, March 28 on the UW-Eau Claire campus. I just thought this would be a fun, social, semi-road trip race that TURC may enjoy. Here is a link to the facebook group site: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=52849832329 If you are interested make sure to send me an e-mail so we can set up the logistics of attending. In addition, Wednesday TURC will be participating at the Health Expo at the Rec Center Lobby on Wednesday, March 4. If you signed up, please make sure to come at your scheduled time. If you forgot what it is, send us an e-mail. Also, we can always use more volunteers, so if you got an hour or so to kill Wednesday, we would love your help. Again, shoot us an e-mail. Goodness, I could sit and write these forever, but I think I'll stop there. If we have anymore updates, we'll holla back at you. I hope you all have a great week, and we hope to see you Cooke Hall this week. Sincerely, Chris DiSalvi Vice President The University Running Club
Hello ladies and gentlemen of TURC, So at the beginning of the year, one of my resolutions was to stop sending e-mails so late on Sunday nights. Well, looking at the bottom of my screen, it looks like I'm nearing midnight once again (*sigh). Oh well... Fortunately, I really, truly think that this is going to be a short e-mail. Before I get started, here's another reminder of the times for the week. Monday 5:30pm Tuesday 7pm @ THE FIELDHOUSE Wed. 5:30pm Thur 5:30pm Fri 4:30pm *Like always, all runs meet inside Cooke Hall unless otherwise mentioned. And of course, we are always looking for new members, so if you get a chance, make sure to stop on by. Alright, next thing on the agenda are vintage, retro t-shirts. That's right, TURC is selling old t-shirts for only $5! (Steele told me not to make any $5 dollar footlong references. Of course, he didn't tell me not to make any "Cinco dollares pie de largo" references. Check it out!-> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFn26FHUJJ8) Also, there is a campus 5K run being held at UW-Eau Claire. I'll be honest, it doesn't look like a particularly special race. However, I thought that it maybe kind of funny to drive over there and dominate their race while representing TURC and the Project. Also, it could be like a mini-road trip for those who have friends at UW-Eau Claire. Even if you don't, it would be just a short trip back anyway. Its being held on Saturday March 28 (the week before Run For Research). If you think that this would be a worth the trip, shoot us an e-mail. There's no plans made yet, we're just throwing it out there... Ok folks, that's all I got. I hope you have a great week and we hope to see you at Cooke Hall this week. Sincerely, Chris DiSalvi VP
Hello TURC Companions, I hope you had a great Valentine's Day with your significant other. If you do not presently have a significant other, I hope you had a great time mocking all those who were falling victims to Hallmark Card Co.'s biggest, most profitable scheme ever! (I would fall into this catergory...not that I am bitter or anything) Haha, just kidding. Seriously I hope everyone had a great weekend. We got some big news in this e-mail, but before I go start, let me just remind everyone our running schedule: Monday 5:30pm Tuesday 7 pm AT THE FIELDHOUSE Wednesday 5:30 pm Thursday 5:30 pm Friday 5:30 pm Sunday: Shopping extravaganza at Run-N-Fun! *All runs meet at the Cooke Hall unless otherwise mentioned. On Sunday, February 22nd, TURC will meet outside the Rec Center to go do some shopping Run-N-Fun running store. The store has offered us a 20-30% off discount on running shoes and apparel starting Sunday and ending through Saturday, February 28th. So if you are in need of a pair of running shoes, Sunday will be a great chance to pick them up. If you can not make it Sunday, tell the employees that you are a member of The University Running Club and they should give you a markdown. Also, TURC is in the process of updating its website. If you haven't checked out yet, the URL is www.tc.clubrunning.org. To spruce the site up a little bit, we are going to include a "Roster" page for all official members. If you would like to be included on the page, send the following information: 1. A picture of you running 2. Some of your best running times 3. Favorite part of TURC 4. Hometown/TURC experience *Of course, if you do not want to do this, or if you don't feel comfortable posting a picture, that is not a problem at all. Also, we would like to limit this to members who have paid the membership fee. If you would like to be included on the website and are not a member, please write a check for $20 out to Secretary Dan Bye. Ok folks, that's all I got. I hope you all have a great week! We hope to see you at Cooke Hall soon! Sincerely, Chris DiSalvi Ok well that is all I got
Hey everyone there is a lot covered in this week's email so read carefully. 1. I was asked by a group of students doing research for target to pass along this survey. They are designing a outerwear line for Champion and your feedback could effect the design! The survey only takes a minute please click here to help out. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=ywtDK0SqJKs3FjOAd_2fUVWA_3d_3d 2. We are finally moving on TURC T-shirts. The design is attached to the e-mail. If you would like to purchase on they are only $15. Please email us your order with your full name and the size of the shirt you want (standard sizing). The due date for ordering is Monday February 16th so get your orders in! 3. The speed workout is changed from Wednesday to Tuesday at 7:00pm and will still be held in the field house - See you there! 4. We have set up an informational TURC meeting for this Wednesday in Coffman at 8:00pm (room to follow later). This meeting will cover the rest of the semester and we will figure out our event calendar as well as address some things for next year. If you want to have input as to what we do our how we are run you should come! 5. Finally we have a booth at the health expo for which we need volunteers. The Expo is Wednesday March 4th and goes from 8:00am to 6:00pm. I need volunteers for all of the time but I really need people to work from 9:30 to 2:00. If you can come (even for an hour) please email the club with your name and when you can work. For those of you who got jerseys this is one of the volunteer opportunities so volunteer if you can. I know that was a lot of info but hopefully I was succinct. If I spelled anything wrong I don't really care but any other problems/questions send us an email Steele President The University Running Club
Hey TURCs, That was one heck of Super Bowl, huh? I thought for sure that once Larry Fitzgerald blew past the secondary, the game was over. How the heck did Santonio (Sweetest Name of all Time) Holmes catch that pass? Man, that was an awesome game. But not nearly as sweet as the running we are going to do this week, of course! Here are the times for the week: Monday 5:30pm Tuesday 5:30 pm Wednesday 6 pm (At the Fieldhouse. Guest appearance by Heather Mueller, Core Training Specialist, at 7) Thursday 5:30 pm Friday 5:30 pm All runs meet at Cooke Hall unless otherwise mentioned. As always, we welcome newcomers. So if you got friends, bring 'em. Other quick notes to pass along: 1. Thanks for all the e-mails about intramural Ulitmate Frisbee. We should have one heck of a team this spring. Right now, it sounds like the league starts at the end of March. We will be playing Sunday afternoons over by the Law School. If you didn't get a chance to send me your ID number, no worries. We can still sign you up on our roster once we get closer to the start of the season. 2. According to the NIRCA website (clubrunning.org) the NIRCA National Race will be hosted in Ann Arbor, MI Saturday November 15. Last season TURC had a strong showing, with the guys' team placing 12th of 24 and other great performances by our girl's team. While I am still very proud of how we did last year, I want us to take the title from Wisconsin! So if you're like me and need a little motivation to go outside and run, keep that in mind as you're debating whether or not to run! Ok, folks that's all I got. I hope you all have a great week. Stay classy and we will see you at Cooke Hall this week! Sincerely, Chris DiSalvi Vice President
Hello TURC Nation, Fellow TURC citizens, let me first apologize for canceling Saturdays run. I didn't think it was a good idea for us to be going outside in that kind of weather. I really hope no one was there waiting for us. If so, I am really sorry! However, I do have some good news. This semester, TURC is signing up for intramural Ultimate Frisbee! (not to be confused with Ultimate Fighting...lol) It should be a lot of fun. I am sure almost everyone has some epic ultimate Frisbee stories from their high school days. I remember I was at a cross country camp in Madison, we spent almost more time playing Ultimate than we did running. Our camp Frisbee team took last in the camp, so I am definitely looking for some revenge. Plus, I hear the Intramural Championship t-shirts are pretty sweet. So if you are at all interested in playing Ultimate send run@umn.edu your name and ID number so that we can register you as part of our team. (No worries, we are paying for it. Also you are in no way locked into playing Ultimate by sending us your ID number. We just need a few numbers so that we can guarantee a spot in the league). Please try and send us your info by Monday night if possible as sign up is this Tuesday. Thanks! Along with Ultimate Frisbee, we got another great week of runs ahead of us. Yeah, it will be cold, but as long as you wear a couple layers I think we should be ok. The weeks runs are as follows: Mon: 5:30pm Tues: 5:30 pm Wednesday: 6:00 pm (FIELDHOUSE)*** Thursday 5:30 pm Friday: 4:30 pm All runs meet inside Cooke Hall unless otherwise mentioned. Also on Wednesday, Heather Mueller will stop by the indoor track in the fieldhouse and lead us in core exercises. Ok folks, that's all I got. Have a great week, stay warm, stay classy, and we will see you at Cooke Hall this week! Sincerely, Chris DiSalvi Vice President
Hola TURC amigos y amigas! I hope you all had a great holiday break. Mine was excellent, but I am excited to start the new semester! Before I begin, thanks for all the feedback from the survey! I think we got a lot of great tips on what we need to do to make the semester especially fun. One of the ways we're doing this is by shaking up the times a little bit and adding a Saturday afternoon run. Hopefully we can get larger turnouts as a result... Monday: 5:30 pm Tuesday: 5:30 pm Wednesday: 6:00 pm (AT FIELDHOUSE TRACK-SEE BELOW) Thursday: 5:30 pm Friday: 4:30 pm Saturday: 2:00 pm Like all our runs before, we will be splitting up into different groups according to peoples abilities and goals. We are always happy to have new members. All runs will meet inside the Cooke Hall lobby (Its the building next to the Rec Center) unless otherwise mentioned. Which I guess leads me to Wednesday's run. On Wednesday, we will be running at the track in the Fieldhouse. Once we are there, we will be running speed workouts. (in other words, more sprint-type workouts such as multiple 400m runs rather than a 4 mile distance run) They may be slightly more intense than distance workouts, but you are certainly able to tailor the workout however you want. And of course, not having to run on treadmills or outside is always a plus! Well I guess that's everytbing. I hope you all have a great first week of classes and try to check out the inauguration if you get a chance (sorry, that was the future history teacher in me talking there). We'll see you at Cooke Hall! Sincerely, Chris DiSalvi Vice President of THE University Running Club
Season's Greeting TURC Nation, I hope you're finals are going well. I promise I won't keep you too long from your studies, I just wanted to let you just a few quick things. First, there will NOT be any runs this week. I know, sad, right? We figure with it being cold, finals, people leaving, etc. we take an early break. However, that is in no way meant to discourage anyone from running independently. In fact, we highly encourage it. Also, make sure to bring your Under Armour because we WILL be running outside still next semester (also, make sure to bring the Under Armour because...WE MUST PROTECT THIS HOUSE! see the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnECY26PSHk) Next, make sure to check your e-mails over the break as we should be sending surveys about the club. We would love to hear from you what we are doing well and what we need to improve. Finally, Special Consultant/Founding Father Gunnar Wagonner sent us this message about an upcoming 5k in January: Join Running Bear for the Frigid 5 at the State Fairgrounds on Sunday, January 11, 2009. Registration is now open. Choose the 5K, 10K or youth run, with your choice of a knit cap, wicking long sleeve shirt, neither or both. Running Bear has been vacationing in Australia, so expect a down-under theme. For complete details, go to: http://www.tslevents.com/TSL/Event/Default.aspx?EID=90 Rumor has it that the winner was 19:30 last year, so I highly encourage anyone who has the opportunity to represent TURC well and dominate. Ok, so I guess this still came out sort of long, I apologize. I hope dominate your finals, and most importantly, have a great holiday break! We'll see you next semester! Sincerely, Chris DiSalvi The University Running Club-Vice President
Dear Nation of TURC, I hope you all are well. I don't know about you all, but this is always the toughest time of the year for me as a student. I feel like it is sort of like the original Super Mario Bros. games. On the one hand you have put in rediculous hours trying to conquer the game, and now you are just about to free the princess (aka Christmas). But you have to beat Bowser (aka Final Exams) once and for all, and it looks like its practically impossible. No worries though. Let TURC be that special power-up (such as the Fire Flower) you need to help you get through this important part in the game. And who knows, with our help maybe, you can set a new high score! (See attachment) I apologize for that analogy. I think I played way to much Nintendo as a kid. Anyways, here are the times for the week. Mon: 4:50! Tue: 4:50! Wed: 4:50! Thu: 4:50! Fri: 3:30 Due to popular request, we have moved the M-Th times back twenty minutes. Hopefully that works out for everyone. Also, we will be meeting in Cooke Hall before the workouts. And yes, we do run outside, so make sure you dress warm. That's all I got for y'all. I hope you get off to a great start with your exams, and we will see you at Cooke Hall this week. Sincerely, Chris DiSalvi The University Running Club-Vice President Super Mario Bros. 3-Champion Super Mario World-Conqueror Super Mario 64-Master Super Mario Galaxy Champion-Conquistador
Hi TURC gang! Did you all have a great Thanksgiving break? Everyone knows the key to having a great Thanksgiving is eating lots of turkey, and dominating local Thanksgiving fun runs. Hopefully you were able to do both. Nothing really new this week, so I'll go straight to the nitty-gritty. The times for the week are as follows: Mon: 4:40 pm Tue: 4:40 pm Wed: 4:40 pm Thur: 4:40 pm Fri: 3:30 pm Once again, we will be meeting for now on in Cooke Hall to stretch and stay warm before the run. Again, just another reminder that when you start selling your books back, we highly recommend you sell them to Oak St. Textbooks. For every $100 of books you sell to them, they will donate 10% to TURC. The only special thing is that you need to tell them before selling the books that you are a member of The University Running Club. Ok, folks that all I got. I hope you all don't work too hard before the exams, and we hope to see you at Cooke Hall before this week! Sincerely, Chris DiSalvi
Hello TURCish friends, Well, after seeing our football team implode against Iowa last Saturday, nothing made me happier than seeing TURC kick butt in Iowa this weekend! The Men of TURC team cranked out an awesome 7th place finish out of 103 open men's teams, 6th out of 37 open girl's teams. Here were the times: 10 4 M19 Hal Brown, 20, Minneapolis, MN 40:45 14 6 M19 Michael Peterka, 22, Miller, SD 41:26 59 19 M15 Ryan Peterka, 16, Miller, SD 47:43 65 33 M19 Eric Hettler, 22, Minneapolis, MN 48:11 71 25 M15 Ryan Daye, 18, Minneapolis, MN 48:42 74 39 M19 Steele Lorenz, 21, Minneapolis, MN 49:04 83 45 M19 Greg McLain, 20, Bloomington, MN 50:01 16 14 W19 Jenna Gerten, 23*, Lacrosse, WI 59:22 18 17 W15 Amie Spieth, 18*, St Paul, MN 1:01:11 32 36 W19 Sarah Fahey, 19*, Minneapolis, MN 1:08:54 33 43 W15 Brittany Pentek, 18*, Rochester, MN 1:09:05 34 38 W19 Lisa Wasielewski, 19*, Minneapolis, MN 1:09:19 37 48 W15 Kelsey Bank, 18*, Minneapolis, MN 1:10:59 Nice job everyone! Its nice to see TURC end the CC year on a high note! Ok, so since this week is a short one, we're going to keep it pretty laid back. We'll be meeting JUST Monday and Tuesday at 4:40 pm. The only difference for now on is that we will BE MEETING IN COOKE HALL. (RIGHT ACROSS FROM THE REC). One last note I want to pass along before I sign off is that we just got an awesome opportunity to fundraise via the fine folks at Oak St. Bookstore. Apparently, if you sell you books back to Oak St. Bookstore, not only well they pay you the standard price for your textbooks, but they will give 10% off of their sales to The University Running Club. Pretty sweet, huh? So when you decide that you can not stand looking at that Chem 1001 book anymore or are ready to burn that gosh-darn Spanish 3015 novel (En serio, este libro me molesta mucho!) make sure you sell it back to Oak St. and give them our name when you do it. Ok folks, that's all I got. Have a great Thanksgiving week, and we will see you at COOKE HALL! Your faithful e-mail messanger, Chris DiSalvi
Hello TURC colleagues, Its finally here! The Living History Farms cross country race is this weekend! Good luck to all those who are going, its sure to be an awesome time. For anyone who is attedning and still has questions, check the TURC facebook event site and/or contact Steele sometime this week. Here are the times for this weeks runs (AGAIN PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE IN TIMES): Mon: 4:40 pm Tue: 4:40 pm Wed: 4:40 pm Thur: 4:40 pm Fri: (We'll play this one by ear. I imagine that most are going to be out of town this day since everyone will be in Iowa. But if there is still interest, we will go Friday at 3:30) As always, we will meet at the Wooden Gopher in front of the Rec. Also, we would still like to host a TURC Social/Get-together soon, preferably once everyone is back from the Living History Farm race. If interested please either contact Steele, myself, or shoot us an e-mail at run@umn.edu. That's all I got for you folks (I thought I would give you a break from the novels I seem to send you all each week). I hope you all have a great week, and we hope to see you at the Wooden Gopher! Sincerely, Chris DiSalvi
Dear Citizens of TURC, Well, after 32 hours and over 2000 miles of driving, TURC has finally arrived home after another successful NIRCA Nationals cross-country meet. The competition was tough, but we definitely rose to the occasion. The men's team placed 12th out of 24 teams this year, improving on last year's 9th out of 13 teams. The women's team also did a great job, but unfortunately did not have enough runners to collect a team score. However, everyone did a magnificent job. Here were the results: 1 23 Hal Brown 28:44 2 52 Colin Zauner 29:23 3 65 Steele Lorenz 29:45 4 92 Evan Baeten 30:47 5 108 Chris DiSalvi 31:20 6 (129) Brad Weiss 32:25 7 (132) Greg McLain 32:39 18 Libby Zupanc 24:33 118 Maria Zauner 27:37 133 Brittany Pentek 28:06 163 Grace Kruger 30:39 But the success of this trip can not be measured only in terms of places or times. On so many different levels did TURC succeed. For instance, despite the long car ride, we did not get involved in any car accidents (more than Ball State can say). Nor did we get any cars towed (Hey Oregon, just because you were the defending champs does not mean you get to park in front of the No Parking Signs!) As a team, we all got to know each other a little better. For instance, although Hal Brown is an eating champion, he has apparently never eaten a bowl of soup before in his life. And Brad Weiss, (aka O.J. Low) Evan Baeten and Colin Zauner (aka the West Coast Boyz) are sure to top the rap charts in the future! All joking aside, a great time was had by all. Mad props go out to Dan Bye and Greg McLain for driving the whole way. Thanks guys! With that being said, here are the runs for the week (PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE IN TIMES) Mon: 4:40 pm!!! (You definitely want to show up for this one as the Minnesota Daily's photographer will be on hand taking pictures to go along with a story about TURC's trip to Nationals! If you can only make it for a few minutes, that's fine, but you definitely want to try and be there!) Tue: 4:40 pm!!! Wed: 4:40 pm!!! Thu: 4:40 pm!!! Fri: 3:30 pm As always, we will all meet at the Wooden Gopher in front of the Rec Center. We will be doing core optional core workouts indoors at the Rec Center, so make sure to bring your U-Card. In other news, if you are interested in going with TURC to the Living History Farms, please sign up on the Facebook Event in the Group "T.U.R.C." Also, we are looking to host another TURC Social Event sometime in the near future. If you are interested in hosting the Event, please contact Steele at one of the runs this week. Finally, registration time is just around the corner. As you are registering for classes, try to keep a couple afternoon and nights open for runs. Obviously, if its the only time your class is available, sign up for it. While we know that running is important, we realize that we all have other important, albeit less fun, responsibilities to take care off as well. Ok I think that's everything! I hope you all have a great week, and we hope to see you at the Wooden Gopher this week. Sincerely, Chris DiSalvi
Hello TURC Nation, Ok, I admit, that probably isn't the best of ideas for this Tuesday. (But if you want to cast your ballot for Lorenz/DiSalvi for the White House, we won't mind). With that being said, like everyone else this time of year, we definitely encourage y'all to vote this Tuesday. Vote early, vote often! (just kidding!) TURC will also be celebrating the special day with a special theme. For the run on Tuesday, make sure to wear red, white, and blue to the run. Those who wear the most will pick out the route for the day! Along with that, here are the scheduled times for the week: Mon: 7am and 5:30 pm Tue: 7 am and 5:30 pm Wed: 5:30 pm Sorry for the short week. Those who are running the NIRCA National Race will be leaving sometime Thursday morning and will be gone for the week. With that being said, those who aren't coming are encouraged to organize times to meet for the rest of the week. Well folks, that's all I got. I hope you all have a great week and we hope to see you at the Wooden Gopher soon! Don't' forget to vote! I am Chris DiSalvi, and I approve this message.
Hello TURC friends, In case you couldn't join us, TURC made its NIRCA debut this Saturday with the WTC XC Invite. We had a strong showing as both the guys and the girls teams took second. (No we didn't beat Wisconsin, but we definitely owned Illinois State! Take that Redbirds! lol). Anyway, here are the unofficial results from the race: Hal Brown 3rd, 28:30 Colin Zauner 5th, 28:54 Steele Lorenz 13 spot, 30:01 Chris DiSalvi 17th 30:46 Matt Garrity 20th 31:59 Brad Weiss 23rd 32:30 Dan Bye 24th 32:31 Evan Baeten 25th 32:59 Nick Van Ess 26th 33:37 Josh Doebert 27th 33:41 Ryan Daye 30th 34:04 Greg McLain 32nd 35:02 Paul Swim ? (sorry, bud they didn't give me a time) Maria Zauner 10th 26:06 Collen Steidl 12th 26:31 Alexa Zoelle 15th 30:33 Rachel Hershman 30:34 Leslie Meyer 17 30:34 As everyone who raced will tell you, that was probably the hardest course ever conceived of for cross-country. There was some obscenely large hills, nasty cold weather, coupled with huge, random gusts of wind. But that was just part of the weekend. I think everyone had a great time in Madison, and word on the street was that despite it being Homecoming, we were definitely the talk of town! (or something like that...) Anyway, that was last week. And now here's the week ahead: Monday 7 am and 5:30 pm Tuesday 7 am and 5:30 pm optional core work out @ 6:20 pm Wed 5:30 pm, optional core work out @ 6:20 pm Thur 5:30 pm Friday: HALLOWEEN RUN! 3:30 PM!*** ***On Friday, make sure to bring a Halloween costume as TURC will be having its first annual costume run! Its going to be an easy distance run around campus so we can show off our super-sweet costumes. It should be a lot of fun, so defeitely try and head make it there if you can. And of course, all runs meet in front of the Wooden Gopher at the Rec. In other news, the Club is in the process of developing a brand-spanking new website to handle all your TURC needs. When you get a chance, make sure to take a look: www.tc.clubrunning.org. Mad props go out to Justin for all his hard-work on the new website. Finally, make sure to keep the weekend of November 22nd open as TURC will being heading down to Iowa to race in the Living History Farms Cross Country Race. The race, held just outside of Des Moines, is the largest cross-country race in the country and features crossing streams, jumping over hay barrels, and climbing steep hills with ropes. I know that may sound intense, but it is less of a competition and more of a fun experience. To see for yourself, check out our new website for pics (sorry, I wasn't planning on that last plug when I started writing.) We don't have any specifics hammered out quite yet, but if you're interested, shoot us an e-mail or talk to el presidente de TURC (for those who don't know, that's Spanish for the presidente of TURC) Steele Lorenz at one of the runs either this week or next. Alrighty, that's all I got. I hope you all have a great week, and we hope to see you at the Wooden Gopher! Sincerely, Chris DiSalvi
Hello Legion of TURC, I don't know about you all, but I am totally pumped for this week. This Saturday is going to be HUGE! I've had the date circled on my calender since the classes started, and I can't believe its finally here! Just in case any of you are wondering what I'm talking about, I am talking about TURC's big showdown in Madison for the Wisconsin Track Club XC Challenge! Not only is it TURC's NIRCA season debut, but its also our chance to compete against our natural rivals, the University of Wisconsin! And its still not too late to sign up if you want. Just make make sure to sign up on the Facebook event "TURC goes to Madison" and make $25 a check out to The University Running Club by next Tuesday. For more info, check out the event website on Facebook, or e-mail us at run@umn.edu. And of course, we still have our regularly scheduled runs this week, too. The times for the week are as follows: Monday: 7am and 5:30pm Tuesday: 7am and 5:30 pm Wednesday 5:30 pm Thrusday: 5:30 pm *Each of the runs meet at the Wooden Gopher in front of the Rec Center. Well folks, that's all I got. I hope you all have a great week, and we hope to see you at the Wooden Gopher. And for those of you coming this weekend, make sure you "bring you're A-game!" Sincerely, Chris DiSalvi

Thats right TURC is traveling to Madison, WI to take on our rivals in the Wisconsin Border Battle Invitational. This event will be open to all TURC members for a cost of $25 which includes travel and race entry. If you do not have a place to stay please do not let that deter you from coming with us just send us an email and we will find a place to house you. We will be leaving on Friday with the race on Saturday. Mad town is pretty crazy on the weekend so we figured we would stay saturday night and party after our race. We will be returning Sunday. Here are the quick facts about the trip. cost- travel and entry fee-$25, does not include lodging or food. Itinerary- leave Friday Oct 24th, Return Sunday Oct 26th Race- women- 5k-Saturday noon -Men- 8k- Saturday 12:45 The deadline for signing up is Tuesday the 21st. You must have signed up on our facebook group and have given us your money ****We will not save you a space unless you are paid by Tuesday**** Let me know if I screwed anything else up. Steele Lorenz President The University Running Club
Hi everyone, Unfortunately this week's email has been composed by me (Steele) and not the master of wit and mischief Chris DiSalvi so it will be infinitely dry, boring and to the point. As always our run schedule is Monday 7:00am and 5:30pm Tuesday 7:00am and 5:30pm* Wednesday 5:30pm* Thursday 5:30pm Friday 5:30pm All runs leave from the wooden gopher outside the rec. *Core workout after run Also this weekend we will have another Weekend Adventure Running Trail Series on Sunday at 10:30pm. We will be traveling to beautiful Highland Park in Bloomington. These runs are just like our normal runs but with much better scenery. We will still split up into three ability groups and no one has to worry about getting lost. This will also leave from the wooden gopher. Reminder to all the women interested in racing at nationals, this Monday is the informational meeting. It is really important that you attend if you want to race nats this year. If you cannot make it but are interested please email us. That is all I can think of right now so I hope that this is all the info I had to cover. Steele Lorenz President The University Running Club
Hello TURC comrades, Hi everyone! How is everybody? (Its ok, you don't have to respond to that. This is kind of like how all professors ask how everyone is at the beginning of lecture, but you know they really don't care. We do care. Really. We just don't want to go through 400 different e-mails from you all telling us how you are doing. We will just proceed assuming that all is well.) Sunday's Twin City Marathon was a great success for many TURC members. Yesterday, Aaron Eicher threw down a 2:48 marathon time, which is a new club record! And Michael Peterka dominated the 10 mile run by placing 18th and finishing under 57 minutes. Nice work guys, and congrats to all who competed in the marathon this weekend! Also, on Friday TURC had a strong showing at the Eau Claire Blugold Open. Hal Brown was the leading runner with a 26:44 in the 8K race (which we hear is a Brown family 8k PR!) Also, Colin Zauner ran strong with a 26:50 in his first ever 8K CC race. Overall, I think it was a successful day for all those involved. All right, I guess that's enough debriefing. Here are the the official TURC times for the week are as follows: Monday: 7:00 am and 5:30 pm Tuesday: 7:00 am and 5:30 pm Wednesday: 5:30 pm Thursday: NONE! Friday: 12:00 am!!!!*** and 3:30 pm Sunday: Paul Mausling Run, TBA As always, runs meet in front of the Wooden Gopher. ***No, that's not a typo, TURC will be hosting its first ever midnight run Thursday night (or technically Friday morning) at 12:00 am! This is going to be a really fun event in which we will run on the East River Parkway (the road behind the superblock that takes you to St. Thomas). I am sure very few, if any of us, have done midnight runs before, so this should be a pretty exciting experience for us all! And no worries, the river trail on the parkway is always very well lit at night, and we will be running together in one large group in which no one will be left behind. We can't wait to see you all there! Sunday, TURC will be competing in the Paul Mausling 6k Cross Country Race. This is a USATF cross country certified race, so lots of top runners from the area will be competing. This race is open to all comers, so if you don't have anything going on Sunday morning, its definitely worth checking out. TURC should be providing more details via Facebook or e-mail later this week. Once again, Tuesday and Wednesdays at 6:20 pm, TURC will be having a private core workout session in front of the Rec Center. Studies have shown that a stronger core leads to a more efficient stride (and an amazing 6-pack) so I think that it would definitely be beneficial to all who can make it. Alrighty, I guess that's all I got. Thanks for your time everyone, and hopefully we will see this week in front of the Wooden Gopher! Word, Chris DiSalvi
Hello TURC Nation, I hope you all had a great weekend. For those of you who weren't able to join us this weekend, we had a lot of great stuff going on. Saturday's Roy Griak Invite was a lot of fun. Not only did it allow us to watch some of the top collegiate runners in the country, it also allowed us to get in touch with our artistic side (or lack theirof in my case) by painting up to cheer on the U of M teams. Not only did our superfan-ness help inspire the women's cc team to victory, it also got TURC some national media attention on the Big Ten Network! We also had a great time racing at Pike Island, near historic Ft. Snelling in St. Paul on Sunday. It was an exciting intrasquad race with lots of PR's set that day. After looking at the results, I think TURC is going to have on heck of season competing this year. If you couldn't make it this week, no worries mate, like always, we have a lot of fun stuff planned for this week. Here's a quick rundown of what we going on this week: Monday: 7:00 am and 5:30pm Tuedsay 7:00 am and 5:30 pm Wednesday 5:30 pm Thursday 5:30 pm-BRING A FRIEND DAY TO TURC! Friday 3:30 pm Like always, runs will meet at the Wooden Gopher in front of the Rec Center. As I mentioned before, Thursday is Bring a Friend Day to TURC! On Thursday, we will be doing a very short, easy run in which we'll run as one group around the campus. (Probably no more than 3 miles). From there we will head over to the Dairy Queen on Washington Ave. and have some ice cream there. This is going to be a very casual, relaxed run so we can encourage others to come along to see what TURC is all about. In other news, Tuesdays and Wednesdays after the run, TURC will be having its own Core Workout session at the rec. We have a specialized trainer that will be leading these optional workouts to target core muscles, which will allow us to be more efficient in our strides (and have super-sweet six packs! haha). It should be really good and I encourage you all to check it out after the runs on Tuesday and Wednesday. Finally, just another reminder to bring in your membership fee if you have not done so already. The fees go towards the cost of gas and treats on weekend events. The cost is $20 and all checks can be made payable to The University Running Club. Well allrighty then, that's all I got. I hope you all have a great week and we hope to see you at the Wooden Gopher this week. You Stay Classy TURC Nation Chris DiSalvi VP
Dear Men and Women of TURC, How are you all doing? I hope all is well. As I am writing this e-mail, I am cursing the existance of the Dallas Cowboys, as they are running and passing over my beloved Green Bay Packers. Oh well, at least the Milwaukee Brewers are still dominating (oops...)All right, they are a little disappointing right now too. But seriously, I'll tell you what is a true dominant force in the world of sports. And that is TURC crushing all takers, not just in running, but volleyball as well. We had a great turnout at the volleyball court after Friday's run. It was lot of fun, and was a great way to end a great week. And of course, every great week deserves another. So with that in mind, here is what we got planned for this week: Monday: 7:00 am and 5:30 pm Tuesday 7:00 am and 5:30 pm (the 7 am run will have an optional group speed workout led by Hal Brown.) Wednesday: 5:30 pm Thrusday: 5:30 pm Friday: 3:30 pm Saturday: TURC goes to the Roy Griak CC Invite!* Sunday: TURC Intrasquad race at Pike Island!** Like always, we will be meeting at the Wooden Gopher in front of the Rec Center for all runs. *On Satuday, TURC will be heading to the Les Bolsted golf course in St. Paul to cheer on the U's cross country teams in one of the largest collegiate cross country races in the country. We will be meeting at the Gopher at 9:30 am, and will drive over to Les Bolsted from there. In addition, we will try to provide a small pre-meet "tailgate" at the park as well. It'll also be a great opportunity to unleash your inner Gopher Superfan as we are going to try and paint up for the race. We should be back around 1:30 pm. And on Sunday will be the TURC 5k Intrasquad Meet held at Pike Island. It is a great opportunity to see what kind of shape you are in. Also, the top 10 runners in the guys race will make up TURC's competitive cross-country team. But no matter how fast you are right now, we would love have as big a turn out as possible. We are still working out the details for the race right now, so we will send out another e-mail about it later this week. Finally, just another reminder that we would also like to have our membership fees in as soon as possible. Remember to do our weekend events, we do need to have your 20 dollar membership fee paid. Checks can be made out to The University Running Club. Sorry, this was another long e-mail, but we got a lot of great stuff going on this weekend, and I guess I get a little carried away. I hope you all have a great week, and we hope to see you at the Wooden Gopher some time this week. Sincerely, Chris DiSalvi Vice-President The University Running Club
Hello TURC members, fans, and followers, This email has a lot of info so sit back and be prepared to absorb all our wisdom and knowledge. You may want to make sure you have a couple minutes (or a really long, boring lecture) available before you read this all. As many of you know we had our TURC Fall planning session on Thursday last week and we have changed a couple of things based on your feedback. First off the run times will be at a permanent time instead of floating like last year. The schedule is as follows: Monday - 7:00am and 5:30 pm Tuesday - 7:00am and 5:30 pm Wednesday - 5:30pm Thursday - 5:30 pm Friday - 3:30pm Also there has been some interest in a group warm-up i.e. brief jog (pronounced ?yog.? It?s a soft ?j?.) and stretching. Run leaders will be at each run 15 min before each scheduled time to lead this. If you don't need/don't want to stretch, just show up at the set time. New to TURC this year is a membership fee which is $20. All fee paying members will receive the following benefits: -all Weekend Adventure Running Trail Series (WARTS) events -discount race entry fees -discounts at local shoe stores -Allows you to go on all weekend overnight trips -Listed in official TURC roster on web page -A warm place in Steele?s heart Any Turc officer can take cash or checks. Checks can be made out to The University Running Club. The activities that we do with TURC depend on funding so please if you feel that TURC is fun and you want to see it continue pay the membership fee. We also had officer elections and I would like to take the time right now to list our cabinet and welcome our new members. President- Steele (Hail to the chief) Lorenz Vice President - Chris (I have mafia connections) DiSalvi Treasurer - Dan (I'm the best you'll never have) Bye Supreme Commander of Fund raising - Hal (Loki: Norse god of mischief) Brown Secretary - Bennitt (Once a Runner) Hartz Webmaster - Justin (I know the meaning of life)Willmert Freshman Ambassador - Ryan (Party like a rockstar) Daye - Kelsey ( BALLIN') Banks - Brad (I wish Pokemon were real) Weiss - Alyssa ( Antidisestablishmentarianism ) Burnham * The nicknames in no way actually represent they people that have them, they were just randomly assigned by me and D-Sal. Moving on... We established committees to organize all things TURC. These committees are open to everyone and we always need extra help. If you missed the meeting and would like to be on a committee just email us and we will sign you up. The committees are: -Fund raising -Social -recruitment Our first TURC race is on Sunday, September 28th which is coming up very soon. It is an intrasquad meet so it is the perfect time to shake off those cobwebs and get a race under your belt before the season starts. We have also recently formed an elite racing team which will be coached by the Gophers assistant mens CC coach Jason Havey. The top 10 men from the time trial will qualify for the team. However, the race is open to everyone, so even if you aren?t interested in the elite team, come check it out, it should be fun. More on both of these subjects will follow next week. For those of you interested in local routes I have set up some maps on our Runningahead account. It is free to sign up and Runningahead offers many great tools for runners such as a mile log and a run mapper. The website is www.runningahead.com and the group name is turc. If anyone has problems using this website let us know. Finally, the part you have all been waiting for! Our weekly social event!! This week we will be playing beach volleyball after the Friday run at the outdoor court in front of the Rec. For those of you who can't make the run stop by after for some fun vollyballn'. Ok folks, that?s all we got. Thank you for sticking with us through TURC?s longest e-mail ever. I hope you all have a great week, and hopefully we will see you at the Wooden Gopher this week. Sincerely, Steele Lorenz, President Chris DiSalvi, Vice President P.S: Doesn?t Lorenz/DiSalvi have a better ring to it than McCain/Palin or Obama/Biden? Think about that on November 4? :)
Hello Nation of TURC, I know its only Sunday night, but I can tell you that right now it you its going to be a huge week. To start off, you got the Packers and the Vikings on Monday night, which promises to be epic (Are we all ready for the Aaron Rodgers era? I know Viking fans are...). We also have our first TURC meeting of the year. Best of all we have our first Weekend Adventure Running Trails Series of the year. And of course, we got other great runs planned for this week, too. So lets get down to it, shall we? The weeks runs are follows: Monday: 4:00pm Tuesday: 5:00 pm Wednesday: 5:00pm Thursday: Meeting* Friday 3:00 pm Sunday: Weekend Adventure Running Trails Series at 11:00 am** In case you didn't get our first e-mail last week, all runs meet in front of the Wooden Gopher next to the Rec Center. Runners of ALL skill levels are welcome, and no one gets left behind. TURC will be having a meeting at Coffman Memorial Union this Thursday. The meeting will allow us an opportunity to get to know everyone and discuss our goals for the year. So if you have any questions about what it is we do, this is a perfect opportunity to do so. In addition, we will be selecting new officers for the club this year. So if you have any interest in being an officer, make sure to come to the meeting.(Hey, Freshmen! This looks great on resumes!) If you can't make it to the meeting its not a big deal, we won't be taking attendance or anything, we just want to be able to have an open conversation with all our members. We don't have an exact time yet, but we will e-mail you the time for it sometime this week. Finally, Sunday we will be having a Weekend Adventure Running Trails Series (aka WARTS) this week. WARTS runs are runs we go on as a group that we do off-campus in some of the nearby parks. This Sunday, we will be meeting at the Wooden Gopher at 11:00 am and drive over to Crosby Farms in St. Paul to go on a relaxing training run. We will be sending out an event via Facebook this week, so make sure to sign in as a member of the group "T.U.R.C." and tell us you will be coming so we can know exactly how many cars we need. Ok folks, that's all I got. I hope you all have a great Monday, enjoy the football game, and we will see you at the Wooden Gopher! Sincerely, The University Running Club
